Okay, here goes.
In November, Vanita and I were discussing what each other wanted for Christmas (because that’s the way her family does it). She wanted a black fleece, and I wanted a date. I told her to make it her ideal date, too.
Yada, yada…so the third weekend in January was Martin Luther King Jr. Day, so we had the day off of school. It was rather cold that day, so Vanita considered pushing the date back. Instead, we improvised by going to her boss’s house (who was in Florida) with two friends. She made dinner for our indoor picnic.
At one point in the evening, I mentioned that she was making a big deal about the date. She joked that she was proposing. I smirked to myself and went on.
Later, after we had finished eating, I asked…
“So you’re going to propose tonight?”
“Yep.”
“Do I get a ring?”
Vanita held a closed hand over mine and opened it like she would drop the ring into my hand.
“Well, if I don’t get a ring, do you want one?”
Something I didn’t write into the dialogue was that Ellisa came up from the basement halfway through the conversation (but before I let the cat out of the bag). I snapped at her to go away, as ususal.
From then on, there was jumping and smiling and such. She called everybody under the sun, and I walked around like it was no big deal.
So there you go.
I have pictures that I would show you if I had the ability. I think they’re too big to e-mail, but I’ll try.
With attendence, I am sure you guys can come, significant others in tow, to the ceremony. I’ll have to double check on arrangements for the lunch we’re having afterwards.
There will be a reception on the 11th or so for everyone and his brother.
