so, I was wondering about the time of the flood and whatnot, and I made this little ditty to help explain it all:

of note is that there were over 1600 years from the beginning of earth, until the flood. That’s quite alot of time for things to change on earth (technology wise).
However, the reason I post this here is because I came across a problem. When going through the ages and the dates in Genesis 5 (to find Noah’s life-time in numbers you have to go forward a few chapters from Genesis 5) I discovered that I had the flood happening around 1639…but Methuselah and Lamech didn’t die until 1657 and 1652 respectively. Anyone got an explanation? Or did I do my math wrong?
*edit*
2nd version with exact dates here:

*edit 2*
it should be noted that on timeline2.jpg I specifically have the flood date set at Methuselah’s death even though that’s not the numbers I got from working the math in Genesis 5

Your numbers seem pretty dang close. I’ve always heard that Methusalah died JUST BEFORE the flood. So maybe someone else has done some math too? (hopefully without tweaking some numbers)
I think B.C. runs backwards btw. So the numbers should be decreasing as the timeline progresses.
haven’t really read this yet…but it has dates and stuff… http://www.unlimitedglory.org/txtadam-saul.htm
daniel’s right.
and cute.
uh, no dip on BC time going backwards…but how exactly did you expect me to figure that out without reading the entire OT and figuring out dates myself?
I was trying to calculate from Adam to the Flood and I was doing it with no reference material other than the Bible…now if you can figure out a way for me to make that go backwards…well, then you’re a friggin genius.
Leo, that does indeed have dates…but those dates say that Methuselah died the same year as the Flood…unless I am wrong, the dates and times in the NIV translation of the Bible don’t agree with that.
james, just start at 0 BC and count backwards. it’s that easy.
um, not really…cause 0BC would be the year Before Christ…which is an unknown number of years after the Flood (unknown to me when I was starting with the beginning of time and going forward).
Technically no one counts 0 BC because it can’t exist.
you people are useless
hah!
well…i did the math myself…i took my bible (NIV) and figgered and did the math and it had both lamech and methuselah dying right before the flood. here are my numbers: http://www.leokempf.com/genesisflood.pdf
tell that to the people who were born on 0 BC. I’m sure they’d love to know they didn’t exist.
