I had posted this on my xanga so I’ll post it here:

EXT. DAVID’S ROOF (this entire scene has a rotating, almost dizzying effect)
[2:47] - David is on his roof when he eyes Bathsheba, seen in the distance.
EXT. BATH
CLOSE UP: Bathsheba’s long, dark, sleek hair rises from the water. Perhaps ZOOM OUT a bit.
EXT. DAVID’S ROOF
David looks viciously lustful.
EXT. BATH
Bathsheba sees him.
INT. CHAMBER
[3:02] PAN from RIGHT to left: Bathsheba lies on a bed in raggedy clothes, holding her very pregnant stomach. Her eyes roll up in her head as she cries. End shot with her releasing a sharp scream that sounds like a birth pang.
INT. CAVE
[3:07] - David, his men behind him, now marches through the cave. His expression is determined, angry, almost possessed like Saul’s.
CUT back and forth between David marching in the cave and:
INT. PALACE - HALLWAY
David marches, the same way as in the cave, down the hallway. Bathsheba, eerily lit, stands looking vulnerable, seductive, at the end of the hallway.

This is a brief scene from my newest screenplay, and it seems to be creating something of a controversy among the Christian community! Mainly because I have an actress who has agreed to play Bathsheba, and to be nude as Bathsheba. But the question is, will I show nudity? Originally, my response was, “probably.” But never exploitively. In general, I was just thinking that I’ll shoot the bathtub/bathing scene (would there even be technically a bathtub? what did they bathe in? was it outside of Uriah’s house? I don’t know!). And if a booby snuck in there, then it would. No biggie. That’s still how I feel about it. A boob’s a boob. If it’s pornographic then it has the INTENTION of being pornographic. Context is critical for nudity. I believe that nudity can, in fact, be of good taste.
Others disagree with me. They say that including the nudity will “cause other Christians to stumble.” At this point, I may exclude nudity simply because of how other Christians feel about it. But I’m still questioning.
Your comments? Opinions? What do you think about nudity in the context of Christian films? Where does one “draw the line?” How does one distinguish tastefulness from pornography? Is there such a thing as tasteful nudity? Should Christians always shy away from sexual content and even discussion of sex, for the purpose of not “stumbling”?
I don’t believe that simply seeing a naked woman would make me “stumble.” For others it may. I don’t know, I’m just thinking!
Thoughts please. Debate is encouraged.
