Helpful Vifl Float Info

Okay, for anyone wondering…

Leo, helpful as he always is, has provided me, an unexperienced Vifl Floater, with some answers.

As far as food goes, what has been done in the past?
“we pretty much just head to the store the night before or morning of and buy the food.”

… and what will it cost per person for the canoes?
and it’s like 35ish bucks a person for a seat in a canoe.

Do we need to worry about tents, or will we be sleeping beneath the stars?
and we collaborate on the tent situation.
bring your own sleeping bag/pillow.

“that’s pretty much it i think.” -Leo

Sounds like all we need to figure out now is a time and place to meet and driving arrangements. I’ll be coming from Joplin, so where does that leave me destination-wise? Is there a certain spot we meet at the river or do we just show up at the place and Jimmy has already linked to?

Yay!

we’ve met at daniel’s house in past years
    then carpooled
we actually spent the night at daniel’s the night before the trip….so we would go shopping that night, then get up early and drive to wherever….

it will be $37 a person for canoes…I have no idea how much food/drinks/gas will cost.

as for what we’ve done for food/drinks in the past…it hasn’t really been sufficient. We nearly ran out of water last time.

Who’s planning on bringing a tent? In the past I’ve borrowed Ryan’s parents big tent but it was a pain in the butt to clean out and I don’t feel like borrowing it again (then again since Ryan is coming, maybe he’ll bring it).

Do you want me to go ahead and make the reservations now?
I see the list being these people:
    me
    Leo
    Jon
    Jacob
    Daniel
    Brandon Hammond
    Josh from California
    Ryan
    Drew

    anyone I missed?
That gives us 9 people, which leaves us 1 man out. I can speak from experience that paddling a canoe by yourself down the Current for 2 days is not fun. Should we get 1 Kayak and 4 Canoes?

As for meeting up, we’ve never had someone who wasn’t in town the night before…so I honestly don’t know where to meet you Jon…I guess just at the place where we pickup the canoes (Leo and I both linked to the website recently).

I’m sorry I couldn’t more adequately meet your needs.

I spoke to ross last night, and he’s 95% sure he’s coming.
How early will we be pushing off on Sunday?

now now…let’s all just get along.

the 4 canoes and 1 kayak sounds like a fine idea…plus they come with the sweet dual paddle!

I think I can bring a 4-man (or woman) tent.

I’m sure we’ll carpool from somebody’s house. and since we’ll be waiting for daniel…i’d still guess his place (if that’s cool with his parents)

let’s plan on going to wal-mart that morning and we’ll all buy our own stuff (sardines, vienna wieners, jerky, cheerwine) and go in together on the necessities (bottled water, trashbags, hotdogs)

are we sure jacob is going? i don’t think he’s posted on the vifl since he got his ladyfriend. oooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

I went ahead and told them we wanted a reservation for 5 canoes since Ross makes 10 folks. I’m sure it won’t be a big hassle to switch back to 4/1 if someone doesn’t make it.

Sadly Leo I don’t think the kayak’s come with the double paddle…the one we had last time was Tommy Higginbotham’s…I borrowed it because I knew I’d be paddling a canoe by myself. Luckily I pawned that off on Matt on day 2…he seemed to enjoy it though…freakin “in shape” people.

Jacob has said that he is going for sure.

    I’m getting excited kiddies!

I hope someone brings a smart phone with internet access, because I can’t be away from the internet for more than 20 minutes.

dang…no harr on this trip? That sucks.

Daniel, you’ve always talked about preparing some sort of “devotional” for ’round the campfire. would be sweet if someone had an old guitar they could bring.

  8. 8 Daniel Jun 26th, 2007 at 10:55 am

I will have a devo ready. I need to know the exact place we are leaving from. Go to my house the night before, I may not be there yet but my parents will be expecting ya’ll. I’ll be driving 12-13 hours that day so I’ll be pretty wiped out when I arrive home that evening…if I’m snappy know it isn’t your fault. I’m gonna let you know for sure about Josh. I may be able to get an old guitar, but it may be easier if someone else does. I need someone to bring Josh and Brandon back to Washington since I won’t be going back after the float trip. I have to go directly to a camp from our landing point. It is part of the way to where I am heading. BRING FIRST AID! No smoking…..I’d prefer. Nor alcohol. Not a demand, but I would appreciate it since I am trying to do neither right now. Welp….call me and leave messages on my phone if you need to.

Also….there was talk that Ryan Hill, my brother-in-law, might be coming. I think Jon talked to him about it. So…figure that out. I gotta get back to being a CIY slave.

I will bring my tent to the float trip. We will need coolers and ice don’t forget that. I can bring like 3 or 4 coolers. If you can get your hands on a clip on seat for the canoe seat get one, its great. I have a 7 passenger yukonXL so we can store gear and I can haul almost everybody. I suggest a call chain to confirm. If we waste money on a reserved canoe or don’t have enough who has to stay behind and who will eat the cost. Lets all give leo and jim a hand with this.
