Mac or PC

Ok guys…my current laptop is starting to have some real issues. I want to buy a new one…really soon. Pluses and minuses for both sides. Why should I get one or the other? It’ll be used for all my communication pretty much, photos, video, internet, light gaming probably, and other various tasks. I need to order over the next couple days if I am to get it while in the States in August. Macbook Pro or a decent Custom built PC laptop?
General specs:
4 gig ram
SD slot
2.53 Duo Core
256 Dedicated Graphics memory
Multi-drive/Superdrive
13-15 inch screen

I can’t imagine buying a PC anything anymore. Maybe I’ve not experienced higher-end PC computers, but in my mind the quality and robust feeling of a MBP is worth the extra dough. I mean, the new one is “carved” from a solid block of aluminum… I’m probably going to get a new one later this year - mine is 3 years old and works great still - Rachel will inherit it to replace her 5 or 6 year old ibook.

It all depends on what you can afford though… the debtor is slave to the lender.

I broke down and bought one about an hour ago. My plan is to dual boot OS x and Windows 7. Here it is:

mac’s are great however I do not see the need for them except for a fashion statement. you can find a comparable pc for much less money. Just my opinion not to talk down on the product, however I don’t feel you are paying for anything more than some clever justin long marketing. Please tell me the point of a case made of a single block of aluminum. If it is for durability why aren’t hard hats made of aluminum instead it’s plastic. Just a thought. I know I can find a pc notebook under 1000 dollars that will do everything that mac will. Now I do believe the mac’s are great products. My first computer was an apple II then a power mac. Mac has done an excellent job of integrating themselves into the main stream as far as software interfacing goes. I built a mac that I’d want on the apple store and it was like 4 grand. Sweet.

I’m with Ryan on this one. When I was contemplating a new notebook purchase, I pined after the Mac. The problem was that the basic one was $1100 new or $950 refurb. I could get a $500 pc that would do all I would ever need and be equally reliable in terms of quality.

I am still a little jealous, by the way.

I agree that it is a fancier computer… I would argue better quality. It’s not a NECESSITY… if you have one, you’re either spoiled or make your living on it. :D

I’m a video editor. So I buy Macs. That’s my two cents, though worthless to this thread.

Btw Daniel– as you’re out there buying state-of-the-art machinery for the purpose of your mission work, please keep in mind that you currently owe me $240.

Just thought I’d politely throw that out there.
