VIFL REUNION - JACOB WALTER SNYDER

vifl_reunion_snyder_final.jpg

01) Got married to Rachel Luise Lehenbauer on the beach in Hilton Head, South Carolina on June 2nd. WOOHOO!

02) Had an awesome honeymoon first in Charleston SC and then in the Berkshire Mountains in Massachusetts.

03) Living in a little white rental house near the corner of 3rd and Elm in downtown Washington. Rachel just received her Master’s Degree in Piano Pedagogy and is teaching a few students at home. I was full-time editor for a nationally syndicated bass fishing show, which was cool experience, but the show lost its title sponsor and bombed. So now I’m unemployed, but Rachel and I are getting by and keeping busy.

04) We bought a piano! We spent a bit more than we had originally planned, but it was such an insanely good deal for what it is that we had to get it. Rachel’s very happy with it.

05) We have a cat named Pepper. She’s pretty cute. She sleeps, poops, jumps on things, bites us, makes out with fleece, and eats our food.

06) BABIES! I’ve never been much of a “baby guy,” but I’m proud to have my new nephew Henry, and my nieces Grace (Rachel’s sister’s baby) and Kylie (Rachel’s brother’s step daughter).

07) I’m applying to film schools again, to get my MFA and to hopefully jump start a professional career in film/video production (as opposed to videography). I got an acceptance call from one in San Francisco yesterday, and am expecting to hear back from one in L.A. and two in Chicago. If God wills it, Rachel and I will be moving to Chicago or California in Fall 2010.

08) I’ll soon be trying my hand at online film competitions. There are prizes that range from $1,000 to $100,000. Could be time well spent if I pour thought and energy into it.

09) I’ve been jogging and doing some weight lifting lately, trying to keep myself at a healthy weight. It seems that ever since my colon surgery, it’s been easier for me to get fat. But I’m very, very thankful to have a well working “semicolon.” My Crohn’s is well under control right now.

10) The summer after graduating college, a few friends and I dressed up in heavy monk robes and all got heat stroke in the woods to film my zero-budget epic “Tale of the Unfinished Song.” And what was more and more becoming “Tale of the Unfinished Movie” has finally reached a point that I can call “finished.” Despite one special effects scene, which my friend Tim is going to start working on in January, The Unfinished Song–though far from the multi-million dollar production I originally imagined–is now at least watchable. Struggling with the film for the last 2 to 3 years has given me a much deeper knowledge of storytelling, and I look forward to remaking the movie someday.

And that, sirs, is my VIFL REUNION 2009 UPDATE!

Thoughts

-gas is ruining a lot of plans.
-do all birds have a specific purpose or did God get bored?
-why do my feet smell all the time…good or bad?
-when will my knees explode?
-who is our next president…does it really matter anymore?
-how far is the float trip from me?
-where is she? I’ve been looking for 23 years.
-A movie about Chihuahuas? Seriously…
-It’s an organized mess….not a mess
-If it wasn’t so expensive to eat healthy, America wouldn’t be so obese…but still pretty bad I’m guessing. Mississippi is 31% obese, Colorado is 18%.
-I put my name on microchip that is going to Mars…find out more from NASA if you want
-Growing up is great and all, but I miss hanging out all the time with you guys.
-Life is good

Reminiscing

This morning, I remembered riding the three-wheeler at Josh’s parents’ house.

Get together

Friday or Saturday night…one of our houses. A get together of people. Vifl people and more? Our houses, are those in FrankCo. At least for me. Also, it was good to chill with you guys sunday. Guys= James+Ryan+Jacob. Good stuff. Wish you had been there James Dill-io.

Women and Fitz’s

Me, James, James, Ryan, and Jacob met up at the loop tonight. It was a rekindling of childhood/teen friends. It was a great time. We laughed and told jokes as if we were still young. I really liked it. It was funny, to me at least, to see James the Greater drinking a root beer float while Jacob, Ryan, and James the Lesser all had some beer. It was as if we covered all the range of childhood to adulthood at one table.
At vintage vinyl I had a lot of fun as well. James and I acted as if we worked at the place. He talked to two guys. One of them asked about Pedro the Lyon and the other one asked about some rock group. I talked to a black dude about DVDs and two white chics about new release CDs. It was a good time.
Overall this is what I want to say though it may be girly….I love you all very much. Tonight reminded me of how much. And it reminded me of the old days. It reminded me of the things we have all gone through. Some good, some bad, some weird, and some can not even fit a category. Laughing, yelling, singing, crying, and anything else. You all will be my family until the day I die. Distance and time will not destroy it..ever. Yeah, I’m crying…deal with it. Thank you all for your friendship and for being my brothers.
Oh yeah! The girl things…find me a woman. Thanks. Bye. LOL

this is not the greatest candy bar in the world…

this is just a tribute.

My memories of the Mars bar prevent me from thinking that any other candy bar could lay claim to being the greatest candy bar that has ever been. The problem is that I took it for granted. Before I knew it, the Mars bar had been taken from me…

in devestation, i moped around for a couple years searching for a worthwhile replacement. peanut candy bars like baby ruth, payday, and snickers are tasty, but nothing could satisfy my extreme longing for the precious almond-milk-chocolate-caramel-nougat bar.

then there was snickers with almonds. i first saw them in a grocery checkout lane. my eyes almost teared up as i tried to suppress the intense emotion i was feeling at rediscovering the love of my life. sure, it was packaged differently, even a name change — but a couple years can make anything look a little different. memories began to flood back as i took my first bite. my life seemed to have new meaning…

that was a couple years ago. this morning, i spent a whole 5 minutes enjoying a Snickers Almond bar. i savored it. and i felt the need to tell the whole world how much it meant to me.

if a candy bar has changed your life, you must make it known.

2 days worth of training stretched into 4

i meant to post last week, but i can never remember how to get to the login page.

my company sent me to san francisco for training. had a great time (except for the training). i’m back at work now, suffering. got lots of pictures and video. didn’t get to climb any redwoods though.

drew, congrats on the apartment. hope you two are having a blast.

New Year’s Eve Party!

So I’m going to have a New Year’s eve party on that night through the next day or two. LOL. I’d like you all to come. Bring friends if you want. I’d prefer 17 and over though. I don’t want freshmen and stuff running around..unless you think I would approve of them. Guys bring some drinks and the girls bring food. I’d prefer if people would bring both, but you don’t need to. There will be people there that you don’t know. I have people from my college coming and also people from other venues I have been involved in.

heartless monster wanting a bite

today i went to Wendy’s for lunch, and i accidentally cut ahead of some woman in line. i was in the middle of ordering before she told me she hadn’t ordered yet. then i turned around and she was missing most of her arms. they were there, but just half as short as normal, and really skinny, kind of like a t-rex.

I hate when that happens.

Anyway, I let her ahead of me. she was standing in front of another register with food in front of her, so i assumed she had ordered. i’ll never assume that again.

the past hunts us down

Interesting things have been going on.
I have been speaking with Randy lately over emails…and since then I have seen Richard Zielke (James Dill’s sisters husband), I have even hung out with James for an hour or so, and last night…I saw Nichole (Randy’s sister, also James Dills brothers daughters mother)…weird eh?
Nichole says nothing to you Randy…but she didn’t specifically say to say nothing to you, so I think it was more of an oversight. :)

Empire Records - Who knows it?

Ashley Anderson got me all nastolgic…now I want to see Empire Records again. Who hasn’t seen it? Or heard of it (I was amazed that she and Jane and others had never heard of it).

winter reminds me of late nights with james dill and jello, walking around downtown washington, admiring the christmas lights and drinking our own personal mixtures of hot chocolate and coffee.

yep. that’s what it reminds me of.

it also reminds me of sleding down the kc hall hill with leo, james, daniel, jacob and everyone else.

i like remembering things like that.
